Stop Motion Explorer Biographies

During our explorers unit, students each choose an explorer to study and do a biography project on. They show their learning by making a stop motion video about their explorer.

Learnings: reading non fiction books (focus on biographies), non fiction text features, researching, taking notes, organizing notes chronologically, timelines, rephrasing notes into complete sentences (script), sharing learning in a creative way to engage an audience, reading fluency, presentation skills

1. Students select 1-3 books about an explorer of their choice
2. They read their book and takes notes using sticky notes
3. Then they organize their notes chronologically on a timeline
4. They using their timeline to write a script teaching about their explorer's life and the key events that happened in it.
5. They make props and background scenes for a video
6. They make a stop motion video about their explorer
7. They narrate the stop motion video using the script that they wrote
8. Share the videos with the rest of the class and parents in a screening.
